Rasberry Pi 3 – Screen Resolution & VNC Server Geometry

if you are planning to connect your  Raspberry Pi 3 with VNC Client, you will notice that the screen resolution is too low to use the desktop. There is no obvious configuration item on the preference  ( gui based )  tools.

The Solution:

It needs to be edited the “/boot/config.txt” file with the following parameters:

hdmi_ignore_edid=0xa5000080
hdmi_boost=7
hdmi_group=2
framebuffer_width=1280
framebuffer_height=1024
hdmi_force_hotplug=1
hdmi_group=1
hdmi_mode=82

The full explanation and alternative values for the parameters can be found in the link: https://www.raspberrypi.org/documentation/configuration/config-txt.md

Now, it is required to change the VNC server geometry as well.

Create a new file in the  “/etc/vnc/config.d/common.custom”. Add the  below line with proper resolution of yours.

-geometry 1280x1024
