Delivery Methods

Classroom Learning
Many courses are offered in a traditional classroom/lab setting. The actual location will be local (in Sault Ste. Marie) and will be listed with each individual course.Ìý

Distance Learning (other Educational Associations)
Ó£»¨ÊÓƵ, as a provider of lifelong learning programs, will collaborate with other online educational associations to bring you the most up-to-date training you require for your growth and advancement. With this learning method, all courses are offered over the Internet.

Independent Study
With this learning method, you can start anytime. Upon registration, a facilitator will be assigned to you for the duration of your course. This mode of learning is truly independent and requires that you be very self-motivated and disciplined.

Online Learning
Online learning is offered through OntarioLearn - a consortium of 22 colleges in Ontario that have joined together to offer online courses in a way that promotes convenience, quality and variety.Ìý Please note that even though some of our in-class courses may have an online substitute, the textbooks, the course name, requirements and prerequisites may differ between the online courses and the in-class courses. Back End Software Developers are in charge of building applications that do the behind-the-scenes work. This typically involves receiving requests from a Front End application, processing the request, reading and writing to a database, and responding back to requests from other applications. In this 18-week, Back End Software Development program, students take three courses to learn the skills and technologies necessary to enter the industry as a Back End Software Developer: Introduction to Java, Relational Databases with MySQL, and Web API Design with Spring Boot. The Big Data Engineering Program is designed to introduce the technically inclined student to the technologies and methodologies requested by hiring companies and used by real world data engineers. This program is fast paced and will cover a breadth of technologies, including Python programming, Hadoop and cloud-based services in Amazon Web Services (AWS). The student will also be introduced to such methods as data wrangling, munging, ingesting and modeling for analytics. By the end of the program the successful student will be prepared for an entry level position as a data engineer, Python programmer, or business intelligence developer.Ìý

Pre-Requisites for Data Engineering:

Front End Software Developers build the pieces of applications and websites that users see and interact with. This involves creating components that look good and provide functionality when a user interacts with them. It also involves interacting with the Back End applications and displaying data in an aesthetically pleasing manner. In the 18-week, Front End Software Development program, students take three courses to learn the skills and technologies necessary to enter the industry as a Front End Software Developer: Introduction to JavaScript, Front End Technologies, and Web App Design with React. Perioperative Nursing PlacementÌý

Canadian Firearms Safety Course (PAL)

The Firearms Act requires that individuals wishing to acquire non-restricted firearms must take the Canadian Firearms Safety Course (CFSC) and pass the tests, or challenge and pass the CFSC tests without taking the course. As per Section 7 of the Firearms Act, individuals under 18 must complete the Canadian Firearms Safety Course and pass the test in order to obtain a Firearms Possession and Acquisition License. They are not eligible to challenge and attempt to pass the test without taking the course. The Canadian Firearms Safety Course (CFSC) is designed as an introductory firearm safety course for the broadest possible spectrum of firearms users. Firearm safety courses have a proven track record in the reduction of firearm-related incidents. Included in the cost of the course is the textbook. This course includes the mandatory exam for Firearms License application, as administered by the Canadian Firearms Program.Ìý

M2 Exit

This course is designed for the experienced street motorcyclist who wants to make the most of his/her riding skills. Included in the course is a three-hour classroom session and seven hours of practical training, which emphasizes road management skills. You must bring your own motorcycle. Upon completion of the practical training, you will be tested for the ‘M’ Class license. After you have successfully passed the Ó£»¨ÊÓƵ course, the Ministry of Transportation requires no further testing.Ìý

Requirements:
In order to participate in the M2 Exit course, riders must supply a road-worthy motorcycle and have in their possession valid motorcycle registration, motorcycle insurance, and M2 license. ÌýPlease come to the first class with riding gear, as instructed in the information package. Those without proper riding gear will not be permitted to attend the course.

Motorcycle Training: Basic (Gearing Up Program)ÌýÌý

Certified instructors deliver Ó£»¨ÊÓƵ’s Motorcycle Training Program. The program is 18 hours long, with three hours in-class and fifteen hours on-bike. Motorcycles are provided. Upon successful completion, you will be eligible to receive your M2 license without further testing. For more information,Ìý Ìý.

Prerequisite:
You must have an M1 learner permit prior to starting the course.

Requirements:
Come prepared with approved helmet, heavy jacket, leather gloves, heavy pants, and boots that cover the ankle.

Notes:
ÌýAn information package will be available upon registration.
Weekend classes are held for three days and weekday classes are held for four evenings to allow for the required number of course hours.

The RPAS course is designed to educate those with no prior aviation background in the safe and legal operation of Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems between 250g up to and including 25 kg Operating within Visual Line of Sight (VLOS) for the Transport Canada Advanced Pilot Permit. Students will be taught the knowledge requirements of airmanship and safety in accordance with Transport Canadas requirements current document TP 15263 E. A minimum professional level of operation is required and will be tested for before course completion and graduation by a Transport Canada qualified Flight Reviewer.

Standard First Aid/BLS C/AEDÌýÌý

In this comprehensive course, participants will learn how to recognize the signs of heart attack, stroke, and choking emergencies, as well as how to treat respiratory emergencies and use barrier devices like the bag-valve mask (BVM) on adult, child, and pediatric patients. This course teaches the participant how to approach and manage medical emergencies and provide care to the patient until EMS arrives. This course is required for workplaces employing six or more workers in any one shift at a work area or those interested in gaining enhanced first aid knowledge and skills as required by the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board under which Second Chance CPR is an approved provider for First Aid programs (WSIB Reg. 1101). This course is also utilized by health care professionals and students entering classes in the Health Care Field (Nursing, Police, Firefighting, Dental Assistants, and Health Care Workers). All courses include an Emergency Action Guide (First Aid Booklet), wallet cards, and printed wall certificates.

In cooperation with Internet Based Learning Ltd., Ó£»¨ÊÓƵ offers online education in Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System. The program can be used as stand-alone training for basic WHMIS education or a refresher for those who wish to update previous training. The course requires approximately 2 to 3 hours of time, to be completed at your own pace. It is available in both French and English.

You will require access to a computer and a printer asÌý well asÌý the internet. After you register, you will receive a password and instructions on how to use the program.

Ozone Depletion CertificateÌýÌý

Cost: $260.92

Ontario Regulation 238/01 states that anyone who purchases and handles refrigerants and/or services and repairs refrigeration equipment mustÌýhave an Ozone Depletion Prevention Card (ODP). As of May 2007, the recertification course is no longer required. It has been replaced by a 5-year renewal provision. This certification course and licence renewal workshop addresses the new regulations and codes now in effect. Your card will be issued upon successful completion of the provincial examination offered during the course. The textbook CFC/HCFC/HFC Control in the Heating and Air Conditioning Industry will be provided to you at the course.
